Three Resolutions to Make for National Dental Hygiene Month

In some parts of the world, October is marked out as National Dental Hygiene Month. We’re open to any excuse to prioritise good dental hygiene, so we’re highlighting this today along with three resolutions you could make in honour of it.

These three easy steps could help you massively improve your dental hygiene. And don’t forget: the better your deal hygiene, the better your dental health is likely to be!

1. Improve your tooth brushing technique

We may have been doing it for almost all of our lives… but many of us still aren’t brushing our teeth correctly. Why not make this the month you improve your technique? There are some simple tips for making sure you’re brushing correctly in this video from Colgate.

2. Start regular flossing

There’s so much evidence to show that flossing is great for your teeth and dental hygiene. If you aren’t already a regular flosser, why not make this the month to start? If you haven’t got on with floss before, it may be because you weren’t using the right kind for your teeth. You could try using dental tape or interdental brushes instead.

3. Rinse with mouthwash…. but not after brushing

Mouthwash can be a great way to help keep your mouth and teeth as clean as possible. However, it’s not advised to use it straight after brushing. This is because mouthwash will rinse away all the fluoride from your toothpaste before it’s had a chance to do it’s thing. Instead, why not try using mouthwash after meals or sugary snacks? This can help to get rid of sugars and bacteria right away instead of waiting till bedtime when you brush your teeth.
